This Spur Award wining book shares the remarkable and little-known adventures of a young Plains Indian woman, Eagle of Delight. With a delegation of Otoes and Pawnees, she visited the nation’s capital in 1821.  There she met President James Monroe and became the “Darling of Washington, D.C.” Her portrait hangs today in the White House library. Jean Lukesh provides rich background on Plains Indian life and on the tribes’ increasing interactions with whites.
