This is a story about a young man who fought for the Confederacy. He lost a leg and his closest friend at Gettysburg.  He suffered imprisonment, escaped and served in the defense of Richmond until the surrender at Appomattox, Virginia. His love for the daughter of Pennsylvania College’s president and a commitment to becoming a clergyman cause him to return to Gettysburg.  Following seminary graduation, tuberculosis forces him to seek a new life and healing in Virginia City, Nevada.
